Polyalkylcyclohexenes and polyalkylbenzenes are obtained in equivalent amounts by disproportionation of a polyalkylcyclohexadiene in the presence of an amide of an alkali or alkaline earth metal in liquid ammonia, preferably at - 70 DEG to 50 DEG C.
