[Class 14 (i).] Devices for aerating liquids or dispersing gases or vapours therein comprise a body of solid form having a longitudinal gap or gaps between it and a surrounding coil of wire, or equivalent enveloping bars, rods, or the like, the air or gas entering the longitudinal space or spaces and being dispersed through the interstices of the coil or the like. The solid enveloped body may be of fluted, triangular, cruciform, or other non-circular form in crosssection. In the embodiment shown, the cruciform body 1 is surrounded by a coil of flat wire or tape 5 clamped between an end-piece 2 and a ring 3, adjustment of which determines the spacing of the convolutions of the coil 5. Alternatively, the spacing of the convolutions may be fixed by grooves or notches on the edge of the supporting body, which may be constituted by two or more readily assembled pieces.</p> |
