PURPOSE:To obtain the titled base capable of forming a tacky coating film, having excellent retainability and feeling and effective in protecting the diseased part, etc., by dissolving a specific film-forming polymeric substance and a tackifier resin in an alcoholic solvent and forming in the form of liquid or paste. CONSTITUTION:A water-insoluble or hardly soluble film-forming polymeric substance soluble in a lower alcohol (preferably ethylcellulose, polyvinyl acetate, etc.) and a tackifier resin (preferably rosin, shellac or their derivative) are dissolved in an alcoholic solvent and formed in the form of liquid or paste. It can be easily applied to a narrow space in the oral cavity (e.g. interdental part, periodontic pocket, etc.) without giving unagreeable feeling to the mouth, has excellent usability and retainability and is freely movable in the mouth. It forms a coating film giving pleasant feeling to the mouth. The base can be incorporated with a drug to keep the drug action over a long period. It is utilizable for protecting the diseased part in the oral cavity and prolonging the drug action, etc.
