The invention relates to a filling element, in particular as a packaging filler material, consisting of a hollow element constructed symmetrically relative to its longitudinal centre-plane. According to the invention, provision is made for the hollow element to be composed of a semi-shell, which is constructed to be approximately semicircular in cross-section, and of two spring arms which form the continuation of the two shell edges, have a curvature which is opposite to the curvature of the semi-shells and run out in each case into a bead-type thickened edge piece, which edge pieces have a clear spacing from one another and lie at least approximately within the circular area defined by the semi-shell.
