The invention relates to the folding of an air bag into a reception container of a collision protection device for the occupants of a motor vehicle in the event of an accident. The air bag is folded to form an air hose and the two opposite air hose ends which project over a gas generator are in each case guided along the inside wall and the floor of a container to the outside wall of the container and from thence are placed at a container packing level and back, so that the folded layers extend from the outside wall to the inside wall of the container.
