NEW MATERIAL:2,6-Bis(3-carboxyphenoxy)pyridine expressed by formula I. USE:Useful as a raw material monomer for polyester or polyamide resins, capable of exhibiting improved properties of flexibility or moldability and used as a raw material for polyester or polyamide resins having expectable powerful adhesive property to metal or ceramics, etc. PREPARATION:A 2,6-dihalogenopyridine expressed by formula II (X is chloro or bromo) is reacted with 3-hydroxybenzoic acid in a molar amount of preferably 2-3 times based on the compound expressed by formula II in the presence of a base, e.g. potassium hydroxide, etc., in an aprotic polar solvent to afford the aimed compound expressed by formula I. The reaction temperature is within 100-240 deg.C, preferably 120-200 deg.C range.
