The present invention relates to a washing machine comprising wash cycle programming means which, at least in a main wash cycle, also provide for heating the water up to one of at least two selectable temperature ranges. The main characteristic of the said washing machine is that it comprises means enabling the user to select a higher temperature range and, therefore, only to alter the wash cycle conditions after making the selection perfectly clear, the said selection differing from the relatively low temperature range selection associated with a normal wash cycle.
