New thieno[2,3-b] pyrrole compounds of the formula: <IMAGE> in which: R1 is hydrogen or lower alkyl, R2 is cyano, carboxy, COOM in which M is alkali alkaline-earth metal, ammonium mono-, di-, or tri-, (C1-C5) alkylammonium optionally substituted by hydroxy, COOR in which R is lower alkyl, or <IMAGE> in which R' and R'' are hydrogen or lower alkyl; R3 is lower alkyl; and R4 is lower alkyl, phenyl, halophenyl, lower alkylphenyl, lower alkoxy-phenyl nitrophenyl and di-lower-alkylamino, and enatiomers thereof. These new compounds may be used as medicines especially in the treatment of acute and chronic pains. |
