Method and device for drying contaminated fluids and solutions

A method for drying contaminated fluids or solutions, to be precise especially weakly radioactive fluid compounds, using microwaves inside a closed vessel is specified, the walls of which vessel reflect the microwaves, and the resulting vapours being continuously drawn off. The method is carried out in the container which is intended for final storage, the microwave energy being supplied during the drying process with the microwaves being phase-shifted to match the respective filling level within the interior of the container and the changing absorption capability of the contents. The reflected power of the microwave energy is measured via a detector which is allocated to the microwave generator (magnetron), and a matching-transformation element inside the waveguide is regulated as a function of the measured magnitude in such a manner that the reflected power is controlled towards a minimum.
