PURPOSE:To obtain the titled fibers having physical properties or functions which have not been obtained conventional fibers, by spinning a solution containing a component capable of constituting gel, fixing the solution into the form of fibers and crosslinking the component in the fibers to give the gel. CONSTITUTION:A raw material capable of constituting a gel by crosslinking reaction is spun into a fibrous material, which is then crosslinked to afford a polymer and form both a network structure unique to the gel and gelatinous fibers. The swelling and shrinking characteristic of the resultant fibers permits the fibers to be employed alone or bundled or woven into the form of cloth for use in converting a change of temperature, salt concentration, pH, etc., into a dynamic change following the swelling and shrinking.
