PURPOSE:To prevent a user from being given unpleasant sensations due to the direct striking of cold air against the user and to the rapid change in air speed by a method wherein the air is repeatedly blown off during cooling in three directions or in downward divided flows, in horizontal divided flows and in a horizontal concentrate flow and each direction is held for a certain period of time. CONSTITUTION:A vertically deflecting vane 1, left deflecting vanes 5a and right deflecting vanes 5b are driven in relation to the elapsed time since the running of a compressor and the set time so as to repeatedly blow off the air in the respective directions or the downward divided flows, in horizontal divided flows and in the horizontal concentrate flow and to keep each blowing-off direction for a certain period of time. Concretely, first, the blowing-off of the air in downward divided flows lowers the temperature of the air in a living space without striking a user with cold air. Secondly, the blowing-off of the air in horizontal divided flows cools the walls of rooms located at the right and left of an air conditioner. Finally, the blowing-off of the air in a horizontal concentrate flow cools the wall of a room opposing to the air conditioner. Accordingly, even when a temperature regulator stops an air conditioner no rapid rise of room temperature occurs.
