To clamp refractory plates (5) in frameworks (1) of sliding gate valves, a fixing stirrup (10) is provided which is adapted to the peripheral profile (11) of an end face of the plate and has adjusting means (14 to 17) and guides (12, 13) arranged in the framework (1). This results in a simple and effective restraining device.
