PURPOSE:To make it possible to miniaturize a indoor unit and to drive an indoor fan, an outdoor fan and a compressor through inverters respectively by a method wherein frequency converters, which respectively drive fan motors and a compressor motor, and a rectifying means, which supplies DC power to said frequency converters, are installed in an outdoor unit. CONSTITUTION:An AC power supply 3 is, first, rectified on the outdoor side by means of a diode bridge (rectifying means) 8 and then smoothed by means of a capacitor 10 in order to be supplied respectively to inverters (frequency converters) 9, 15 and 16. In addition, an indoor fan motor 4, an outdoor fan motor 11 and a compressor motor 12 are respectively driven by the inverters 9, 15 and 16 so as to be able to perform various modes, which are set at the indoor side, of air-conditioning operation. I this case, because the smoothing main power capacitor 10 is large-sized and has large capacity, the capacitor 10 is installed at the outdoor side, which has sufficient space. Accordingly, a indoor unit 1 can be miniaturized.
