PURPOSE:To increase cycle life and high rate charge performance in a battery system which evolves oxygen in overcharge by preparing paste with hydrogen absorbing alloy powder and a binder solution, impregnating the paste within a porous metal, or spreading it on the both sides of the porous metal, and drying, then immersing in fluorine resin dispersion. CONSTITUTION:Each metal is weighed so that alloy composition is La0.2Mm0.8 Ni3.6Co1.0Mn0.4 and alloyed in an arc furnace to obtain an alloy. The alloy is heat-treated under vacuum, and crushed to obtain powder under 400 mesh. A polyvinyl alcohol solution is added to the powder and kneaded to obtain paste. The paste is impregnated in foam nickel having a porosity of 95-96%, and dried. After pressing, a nickel lead is welded to the foam nickel. The foam nickel is immersed in fluorine resin dispersion and dried to form a negative electrode. The foam nickel electrode is used as a nickel positive electrode. |
