NEW MATERIAL:An indole derivative shown by formula I (R<1> is H, halogen, OH or lower alkanoyl; R<2> is H, lower alkyl, phenyl which may be replaced or aralkyl; R<3> is lower alkyl; R<4> is H or lower alkyl; A is 1-6C alkylene, cyclohexylenemethyl or phenylene) or its salt. EXAMPLE:N-(5-Hydroxy-2-methylindole-3-carbonyl)-trans-4-aminomet hylcyclo hexane-1-carboxylic acid ethyl ester. USE:An anti-inflammatory agent and analgesic having medical effects such as analgesic action, inhibitory action on uric acid edema, inhibitory action on 5-lipoxygenase, etc. PREPARATION:A compound shown by formula II or its reactive derivative is reacted with a compound shown by the formula H2N-A-COOR<4>a (R<4>a is lower alkyl) and the prepared ester is optionally hydrolyzed to give a compound shown by formula I.
