PURPOSE:To improve the quality of printing without printing output due to the use of the same position of a printing ribbon, by carrying out the feed of the ribbon by a specified number of pitch before the printing ribbon is shifted up and the operation of printing output starts. CONSTITUTION:A main routine is executed with CPU 11. When a letter code due to the operation of input is inputted from a keyboard 13, the vertical position of a printing ribbon 5 is detected via a ribbon positional sensor 18. Then, when the printing ribbon is positioned at a position of shift down, a cassette 4 is shifted up by warming up a ribbon shift (RBS) motor 28 to locate the printing ribbon 5 at a printing position. Then, a ribbon feed (RB) motor 26 rotates by two exciting phase content, the printing ribbon 5 is fed by two pitch content, and the printing output processing equivalent to the inputted letter code is carried out.
