PURPOSE:To obtain a storage battery whose high rate discharge is good, cycle life is excellent, and reliability is high by using a specified hydrogen absorbing alloy as an electrode for storage battery. CONSTITUTION:A hydrogen absorbing alloy indicated in LnNixMnyCuz (Ln is lanthanum alone or a mixture of rare earth metal containing lanthanum, 4.5<=x+y+z<=5.5, x>3.5, 0.2<=y<=1.3, 0.2<=z<=1.3) is used as an electrode for storage battery. By adding Cu to Ln-Ni-Mn alloy having a CaCu5 type crystal structure containing nickel of an atomic ratio of 3.5 or more, hydrogen atom diffusion velocity in the alloy during charge-discharge is increased. Thereby, an electrode whose high rate discharge performance is improved, dissolution of manganese and formation of fine powder caused by repeated charge-discharge cycles are retarded, and cycle life is increased can be obtained. |
