PURPOSE:To provide a dot wire for printing enhanced in durability and productivity, by forming titanium type hard compound such as titanium nitride, titanium carbide or titanium carbonitride to the outer peripheral surface of the dot wire for printing. CONSTITUTION:A titanium type hard compound such as titanium nitride, titanium carbide or titanium carbonitride is formed only to the outer peripheral surface of a dot wire for printing by physical vapor deposition such as ion plating or sputtering or chemical vapor deposition utilizing thermochemical reaction or plasma. By this constitution of the dot wire for printing, a long wire is treated without treating the dot wire alone and a rational process such that the long wire is cut into individual dot wires after the film of the hard compound is formed can be performed and, even if the film of the hard compound is not formed to the leading end surface of the dot wire, by forming said film to the outer peripheral surface of the dot wire in the longitudinal direction, durability can be enhanced. |
