PURPOSE:To attain a free rewrite for only a video signal or only a sound signal by recording the video signal on an optical disk performing a time base compression at every regulated period, and time base-compressing and recording the sound signal attached on the video signal within a space area in the optical disk generated by the time base compression. CONSTITUTION:The video signal at a video input terminal 1 is supplied to a video time base compression circuit 8, and the video signal of one field period is time base- compressed and is changed to a compression video signal VC. Similarly, the sound signal at a sound input terminal 2 is supplied to a sound time base compression circuit 9, and the sound signal of one field period is time base-compressed, and also, it is digital-converted, and is changed to a compression sound signal SC. The signal VC is frequency-modulated at a frequency modulator 10, and is supplied to an adder 11, and a pilot signal is added on it, it is supplied to a switcher 13. Meanwhile, the signal S is supplied to a modulator 14, and is converted to a signal fitted for a recording, then being converted to the switcher 13, and an add signal and a sound modulation signal are selected, then being supplied to an optical head 6 and recorded on an optical disk 7. In this way, the simultaneous recording of the video signal and the sound signal, or the recording of the video signal only or the sound signal only can be performed.
