PURPOSE:To attain the shift of a magnetic head at the optimum speed by providing a gate means which prohibits the sending of a read data signal and an index pulse signal to a floppy disk control device while a control circuit outputs a step signal. CONSTITUTION:A step pulse counter 6 which counts a step pulse signal 1a sent out from the floppy disk control device, a control circuit8 which outputs the step signal corresponding to a counted number, a driving means 9 which performs the track traveling of the magnetic head based on a step signal 8a and a direction signal 2a, and gate circuits 11 and 12 which prohibit the sending of a read data signal 12b and an index pulse signal 11b to the floppy disk control device while the control circuit 8 outputs the step signal 8a are provided. In this way, the magnetic head can be shifted at the optimum speed.
