PURPOSE:To easily expand a mass-storage data base by putting data base groups together and structuring a mass-storage data base system, and employing a system which selects a data base group by a data base expanding device. CONSTITUTION:A data base is considered as a set of intermediate-scale and small-scale independent data base groups having the same logical structure and some control key is operated to control the whole data base by a data base group control table 4 for obtaining the identification name of a data base group. The data base expanding device 1 selects a data base group by the data base group control table 4 at the start of a transaction processing program 2 to perform processing which enables access to the data base group. When the transaction processing program 2 generates an instruction for access to the data base, a data base access device 3 accesses the allotted data base group.
