PURPOSE:To improve the positioning accuracy of a read/write head by again reading a data track after a positioning correction is executed through the use of a subservo track and the read/write head if a reading error is detected while a data track is read. CONSTITUTION:After updating a correction value ends, a rotary type storage controller 100 instructs a positioning control circuit 205 to execute positioning on an original track which develops a reading error through a signal line 322, and a positioning mechanism 204 can position R/W heads 212-214. Upon the completion of the positioning, the positioning control circuit 205 reads an offset amount corresponding to the R/W heads 212-214 selected from a correction value storage circuit 206 through a signal line 316, transmits said amount to the positioning mechanism 204 through a signal line 312, makes the fine adjustment of the R/W heads 212-214, and again performs a retrial for reading on the data track which develops a reading error. Thus a highly accurate positioning with its error corrected can be made.
