PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of a trouble due to the erroneous reading, rejection, etc., by synthesizing a font pattern corresponding to a character in the image information and the image information and specifying the recognizing result. CONSTITUTION:The image data on a slip 10, are read by a CCD scanner 20, a recognizing processing part 30 stores the image data from an AD converter 12 into an temporary image memory 31, and through a pretreatment circuit 13, a recognizing circuit 14 executes the character recognition. The character code data of the recognizing result are stored to a recognizing result memory 32, sent to a character generator 33, converted to a character font pattern and the image data synthesized at an image synthesizing circuit 34 are stored to an auxiliary memory device 40. By the keyboard 52 of a host computer 50, the synthetic image data are read, displayed at CRT 51, and when the erroneous reading, rejection, etc., exist, the rewriting of the recognizing result is executed by the keyboard 52.
