PURPOSE:To obtain a polyolefin having narrow molecular weight distribution and improved moldability, by polymerizing an olefin in the presence of a catalyst produced by adding an organometallic intramolecular coordinated compound and an electron-donative compound having functional group containing hetero- atom to a catalyst component for the polymerization of olefin. CONSTITUTION:A catalyst component for the polymerization of an olefin [e.g. a Ti compound such as TiCl4, (C4H9)4Ti, etc., or an organic Al compound such as diethylaluminum chloride, triethylaluminum, etc.] is added with (A) an organometallic intramolecular coordinated compound [e.g. (3-ethoxypropyl) isobutylaluminum hydride, dihexylaluminum acetylacetonate, etc.] and (B) an electron-donative compound having >=2 functional groups containing hetero-atoms (e.g. dimethyl malonate, dibutyltin diacetate, etc.). The amounts of the components A and B are 0.1-100mol and 0.001-100mol per 1 Ti atom, respectively. An olefin is polymerized in the presence of the catalyst produced by the above process.
