PURPOSE:To detect whether or not there is a fellow passenger without contacting by arranging a conductive layer and an on-vehicle conductor opposite each other across the fellow passenger who sits on an on-vehicle seat and forming a capacitor for fellow passenger detection which varies in electrostatic capacity according to whether or not the fellow passenger is present. CONSTITUTION:The conductive layer ELFR which is mounted on the on-vehicle seat 20 and has a wide surface and the on-vehicle conductor ROOF which faces the conductive layer are arranged at least partially across the fellow passenger MAN who sits on the on-vehicle seat 20 to form the capacitor CFR, whose electrostatic capacity varies according to whether or not there is a human body having a high dielectric constant (about 80). For the purpose, the variation in the electrostatic capacity CFR is detected by a detecting circuit DETFR to detect whether or not there is the fellow passenger present without contacting. The conductive layer mounted on the on-vehicle seat has the wide area, so even a small fellow passenger such as an infant and a child can be detected securely. |
