PURPOSE:Oersskovia citria, an actinomycetes, is cultured in a specific medium to produce in high potency an enzyme which can cause lysis of cell walls in yeasts and fungi. CONSTITUTION:Oerskovia citria, an actinomycetes, is cultured in a medium containing chitin and yeast cell bodies. The enzyme is collected from the culture mixture. The most preferable yeast cell bodies are dried bread yeast which is commercially available and inexpensive. Chitin is obtained by crushing crab or shrimp shells. The concentration of the yeast is 0.2-0.5% on the dry basis and chitin is preferably 0.5-1.0%. The pH of the culture medium is preferably 8-10 at the initial stage. |
