MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM AND ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium which has the small output variance and the small high path modulation in particular and also the excellent durability, by adding the pores having a specific mean pore area to a magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:Many pores having a mean pore area of 6X10<-5>-7X10<-1>mum<2> (preferably 2X10<-3>-7X10<-1>mum<2>) are provided on the surface of a magnetic layer. A magnetic recording medium obtained under such conditions has the small output variance especially the small high path modulation together with the extremely excellent durability. The durability will be deteriorated with a mean pore area less than 6X10<-5>mum<2>. While the output variance especially the high path modulation is increased with a means pore area larger than 7X10<-1>mum<2>. Then the drop-out is also increased.
