PURPOSE:To improve the quality of an ingot by disposing respectively independent molten metal level detectors to the respective discharge sides of an immersion nozzle and controlling the molten metal level with the detector which indicates the max. molten metal level. CONSTITUTION:The molten metal level detectors 3, 4 are disposed on the right and left of the immersion nozzle 5 and a level signal selector 6 is disposed in a control device. The two level signals detected by the level detectors 3, 4 enter the signal selector 6 by which the molten metal level on the drift side is always detected. The detection signal is outputted to a controller 9 by which the molten metal level is controlled. The discrimination of the drift is executed by using thermocouples embedded into molds 1, 2. The output of the drift discriminator 7 is interlocked by the normal signals of two units of the level detectors 3, 4 to output which detector is to be used in the final. The generation of the internal defects is prevented by the above-mentioned method and the quality of the ingot is improved. |
