PURPOSE:To prevent the proliferation of the lights by forming the diametral section of the P-N junction extendedly provided in the vertical direction relative to the flat plate part in the columnar protrusion into a non-circular form. CONSTITUTION:A light-emitting element consists of, for example, a flat plate part B, a columnar protrusion P provided on one surface of that, P-type side electrodes E1 provided on the surface on the columnar protrusion P side and a side circumferential surface of the columnar protrusion P and an N-type side electrode E2 provided on a bottom surface of the flat plate part B. A cylindrical P-N junction PN1 to be extendedly provided in the vertical direction to the flat plate part B exists in the columnar protrusion P and the P-N junction PN1 has an oval form because the configuration of the columnar protrusion P is oval. Thus, as the lights which are generated by the P-N junction PN1 can not take the circular orbit of the P-N junction PN1, the proliferation of the lights in the parallel direction to the flat plate part B is suppressed in the columnar protrusion P, thereby utilizing efficiently the lights in the vertical direction. |
