PURPOSE:To reduce the cost of production by casting a cylinder block body of a closed deck type by a die casting method and machining communication holes to a deck surface then press-fitting a sleeve to the inside peripheral face of the block. CONSTITUTION:A molding tool is constituted of dies 1, 2, 3 and an Al alloy core 6 is set to the outside of a bore part 4 in tight contact therewith. A molten Al alloy is die-cast into a cavity 7 and thereafter the dies 1, 2, 3 and the core 6 are removed to obtain a block body 8. A recess 9 of the body and the holes 11 are communicated by machining and further the inside peripheral face of the body 8 is ground; at the same time, the sleeve is press-fitted thereto, by which the cylinder block is obtd. The core is made reusable and at the same time the time for casting and machining is reduced by the above-mentioned method. The cost of production is thus reduced.
