PURPOSE:To prevent picture information from being erased by flyback line and to make a radiographic image information reader small-sized and inexpensive by making the relative speed of main scanning to subscanning in a certain period from the start of each main scanning lower than that in the following period. CONSTITUTION:An accumulative phosphor sheet 10 is carried in the direction of an arrow Y by a sheet carrying means 11 for the purpose of performing subscanning. A laser beam 13 as an exciting light emitted from a laser light source 12 is deflected by a galvanometer mirror 14 and is main-scanned on the sheet 10 in the direction of an arrow X approximately perpendicular to the direction of the arrow Y. In this case, a driving control signal Sc from a control circuit 25 is inputted to the mirror 14 through a driver 24, and the driving of the mirror 14 is controlled based on the signal Sc so that the scanning speed in a certain period from the start of main scanning is lower than that in the following period. Thus, the scanning line describes a locus close to the subscanning direction of the arrow Y to prevent picture information from being erased by flyback line, and the structure is simplified to make the reader small- sized and inexpensive.
