The invention relates to an I<2>L inverter circuit comprising a vertical transistor and a lateral transistor of conventional construction, the collector region and the emitter region of the lateral transistor, including the base region situated therebetween, being surrounded by a screening region. In this arrangement, the screening region constricts the base region of the lateral transistor in such a way that the base region width is reduced compared to the width of the adjacent collector region or emitter region of the lateral transistor. According to the invention, the screening region consists of an insulating material extending as far as the base body.
