A method is proposed for the decontamination of soils which are contaminated with volatile halogenated hydrocarbons, in which process the soil is provided with holes whose openings are not hermetically sealed but remain gas-permeable, a hollow tube having a smaller diameter is introduced into the holes, and gas is pumped into or sucked out of the holes via the open bottom end of the hollow tube. <IMAGE>
