In building a pneumatic tyre, cross-laid belt layers are applied to a flat-band radial cord carcass and the assembly is then shaped. During shaping the belt cord-angle decreases, e.g. from 30-40 degrees to the circumferential to 15-25 degrees; simultaneously, the belt decreases in width compressing the carcass cords, axially thereof, immediately therebeneath. The compression amounts to 20 to 50% of the pre-shaped length. |
