[Also in Division F4] In a tubular heat exchanger, a tube plate comprises square or rhombic elements 25 which are electron beam-welded over the whole surface area of their contacting lateral faces, at least some of the elements 25 being ducted and each ducted element being butt-welded to a respective tube 27. The elements 25 form a square, hexagonal or rectangular grid and welding is carried out by successive sweeping along the straight lines of the grid. Additional members may be electron beam-welded to the sides of the grid to produce a circular tube plate. The tube plate may be formed with cavities 28, 29. |
