In a cap for a petrol filler neck 201 of a motor vehicle, a hollow cylindrical end piece 202 is fixed by the manufacturer to the top of the neck, having an internally threaded collar 221, on which an adapter 204 is held for retrofitting for filling up with unleaded fuel. This adapter with an inside diameter at the narrowest point of < 25 mm is at the same time supported inside the filler neck 201.
