In the case of a shelling method for bean-like crops, especially for soya beans, the said crops are heated to a predetermined temperature right through to their centres and subjected to a hot stream of gas. Even before treatment in the hot stream of gas, heating is at least partially carried out by means of contact heat resulting from contact with hot surfaces (34). Then the (residual) shells are separated.
