A device is described for the load-dependent control of an exhaust gas recirculation valve, which is arranged in the exhaust gas recirculation line of a diesel internal combustion engine. The device has a pressure converter, which picks up a vacuum signal, modulated according to the position of the adjusting lever of the injection pump of the internal combustion engine, and a vacuum signal generated by a vacuum pump and, as a function of these vacuum signals generates a control vacuum for actuation of the exhaust gas recirculation valve. In order, in a supercharged diesel internal combustion engine, to ensure an optimum adaptation of the exhaust gas recirculation rate to the quantity of fuel injected at any one time, the charge pressure of the internal combustion engine is admitted to the third control chamber of the pressure converter.
