PURPOSE:To obtain a high strength nonmagnetic steel having rust resistance as well as characteristics peculiar to a high Mn steel by increasing the Cr content in a high Mn and low Cr steel having a specified composition so as to inhibit the formation of harmful inclusions. CONSTITUTION:This nonmagnetic steel consists of, by weight, 0.05-0.40% C, 0.05-0.70% Si, 15-25% Mn, <=0.015% S, <=0.045% P, <=4.0% Ni, 14-20% Cr, 0.15-0.60% N, <=0.01% O, 0.001-0.050% Al and the balance Fe or further contains 0.1-4.0% Cu and/or 0.1-3.0% Mo, and/or 0.005-1.0% one or more among V, Ti, Nb, W and Zr. The amount of nonmetallic inclusions in the steel is <=0.10% by area. The steel has superior rust resistance as well as high strength and nonmagnetism as characteristics peculiar to a high Mn steel. |
