PURPOSE:To obtain a catalyst for converting not only CO and hydrocarbon to CO2 and H2O but also NO2 in an oxygen-rich atmosphere, by adding an organic acid to a support solution and simultaneously supporting a palladium metal and yttrium oxide by the surface of a carrier in a specific ratio. CONSTITUTION:An org. acid such as citric acid or oxalic acid is added to a liquid mixture of a precursor of a palladium metal such as palladium nitrate and precursor of yttrium oxide such as yttrium nitrate in a range of 1:0.5-1:5 on a wt. basis with respect to a yttrium oxide conversion wt. and a carrier is immersed in the resulting mixture to be impregnated therewith and, after drying, the impregnated carrier is subjected to decompositional baking to obtain a catalyst. The mixing of the palladium metal yttrium oxide is set to 1:2-1:50 on a wt. basis. The obtained catalyst oxidize and purifies CO or hydrocarbon generated from an internal combustion engine and converts NO2 to NO which is lower in toxity. |
