PURPOSE:To economize on energy for reheating for working in the succeeding stage and to considerably reduce the cost for working hot rolled steel products by passing the steel products of a high temp. through a cooling bed constituted of upper and lower heat retaining covers and heat insulating curtain. CONSTITUTION:The steel products rights after hot rolling are cut to a suitable length to form ingots 1 which are cooled and conveyed by a conveyor consisting of a stationary rake 2 and moving rake 3. The top and bottom of the rake 2 of the conveyor are enclosed with the upper and lower heat retaining covers 6, 8 and the curtain 7 consisting of a heat insulating material such as asbestos sheet is hung to the outlet at the end thereof. The surfaces of the covers 6, 8 facing the ingots 1 are constituted of black plate materials 9 and the intermediate is constituted of heat insulating materials 10 made of ceramic fibers and the sheath consisting of steel product structures. The atmosphere in the cooling chamber is slowly cooled as the dissipation of radiation heat and convection heat is prevented by such covers 6, 8 and the curtain 7. The heat energy for softening and heating in the working in the succeeding stage is thus considerably economized. The ordinary cooling and conveying are executed by removing the upper heat retaining cover if there is no need for slow cooling. |
