PURPOSE:To retain the shape of a seal material, by constituting the titled apparatus to that the seal material and a catalyst are introduced into a cylindrical catalyst container at the same speed under pressure while the end surface of the seal material in the outer diameter side thereof is always pressed along a funnel shaped guide surface by a plurality of seal material pressing bodies pressed outwardly by springs. CONSTITUTION:In sealing a catalyst carrier 6, around which a wire net 7 and a seal material 8 made of a ceramic fiber are wound, for purifying the exhaust gas of an automobile in a cylindrical metal container, a pressure introducing jig 10 is inserted in a guide ring 30 when the seal material 8 is slightly penetrated in a guide surface. Whereupon, the circular arc pawls 23 of four fan-shaped seal material pressing bodies 13 held in a freely slidable manner ion a radial direction between two discs 11, 12 and pressed outwardly by springs 14 come to a state coinciding with the outer diameter part of the seal material. When the pressure introducing jig is pressed downwardly from this state, the circular arc pawls fall at the same speed as a pressing surface 22 while always pressing the outer diameter part of he seal material and, therefore, even the seal material not covered with an aluminum material retains its shape. |
