PURPOSE:To shorten the time for partial copying when a multi-level sheet feeder is used, by furnishing a speed control means which puts the transport speed into No.1 speed, High, when a copy request signal for the first sheet is given to a microprocessor, and into No.2 speed when attainment of the specified position is sensed. CONSTITUTION:When the leading edge of a copying sheet is sensed by a sensor S4a, a detection signal is given to a CPU, which turns the sheet feed pulses into H, and this is informed to the body of copying machine. Therefrom pulses of a sensor S9 of motor M1 are calculated, and the time when the motor M1 has rotated for the angle corresponding to the leading edge reaching a transport roller 20a, is sensed to lead to turning-off of a feed solenoid SLa. The sheet passes a jam sensor S6 and is fed into the copying machine by transport rollers 23, 24 at the sheet feed port on the body side. Here the CPU performs speed control so that only the first No.1 copy will be at High speed transported from a sheet feed tray of a sheet feed device till transport rollers 23, 24 in the body of copying machine. This should shorten the copying time greatly in minor quantity case, for ex. only a single copy shall be made.
