Manufacture of projectiles having a base fuze

Method for pressing precompacted explosive charges into projectile cases, especially into the cases of projectiles of a relatively large calibre for big guns, each projectile case being provided in the region of the projectile base with an aperture for insertion of the explosive charge and to accommodate a base fuze and/or a safety device. The base fuze and/or the safety device itself is used as a piston to complete pressing of the explosive charge situated in the projectile case and is retained in the projectile case in the condition of prestressing brought about by the counterpressure of the compressed explosive charge.
