Method and ultra-fast charging devices for nickel-cadmium accumulators. The invention relates to a method and to two ultra-fast automatic charging devices for a nickel-cadmium storage battery which are indifferent to the initial state of charge thereof and to the temperature. Two charging profiles with constant average value of current are available: an ultra-fast charging current and a holding charging current. During the ultra-fast charging, the first and second time derivatives of the battery voltage are calculated by an electronic circuit. Full charge is detected by observing one of the two following events: - second crossing of the first derivative beyond a positive threshold; - second negative crossing of the second derivative. For safety, overload is detected by observing the first negative crossing of the first derivative. When full charge or, failing that, overload is detected, the charger passes to holding current which can be sustained indefinitely by the accumulators. One of the devices according to the invention is mainly analog, the other mainly digital.
