There is described a device for whole body UV irradiation in which UV radiators are arranged underneath a transparent lying plate. In order to reduce the body temperature of a person lying on the device, recesses are distributed over the entire lying plate through which cooling air is blown upwards from underneath. The density and/or the dimensions of the recesses are preferably increased in the region on which the body rests. Furthermore, two venting channels are preferably arranged below the lying plate, in which channels the cooling air for the UV emitters or for cooling the body is guided. In an advantageous further development the two venting channels are provided with separate venting devices.
