PURPOSE:To work economically easily various curved surfaces other than small diameter lenses and aspherical surfaces by grinding and polishing an object of metal, glass, etc. into a spherical surface of any radius of curvature according to a position of a swing center relative to a rotary table. CONSTITUTION:An object (lens base material) 6 is secured fixedly to a member 16 rotated about a center shaft 12 and pivoted about a pivotal center 18 in a swing angle 17 by a holder 13. Below the member 16 is rotated a rotary table 14 about a shaft 19. Then, the swing center 18 is set to the upper portion of the rotary table 14 by a desired value of radius of curvature. Abrasives are attached to the surface of the table 14 and a proper pressure is applied to the surface of the object 6 while said object is rotated and pivoted so that a spherical surface can be ground and polished. Also, when the holder 13 for the object 6 is pivoted without any rotation, a cylindrical surface is formed. Further, when the object 6 is rotated and stopped to move up and down the pivotal center according to the slant angle of the center shaft 12, aspherical surface such as paraboloid of revolution and ellipsoid is produced. |
