Tank arrangement for an operating liquid of an internal combustion engine

In order to avoid unwanted flow conditions in a tank arrangement for fuel or oil, containing two tanks (1, 2), which a suction pump delivers into an internal combustion engine, the two tanks are connected close to the base by way of lines (3, 4) and in their upper areas by way of a venting line (8). Only the tank (1) connected to the intake side of the pump has a connection to the atmosphere. The opening of the venting line (8) into it is so situated that if the tank arrangement (1, 2) is inclined, any exchange of liquid between the two tanks (1, 2) is virtually prevented. By appropriate selection of the flow cross section of at least one of the lines (3, 4) close to the base with reference to the change in the viscosity of the liquid as a function of the temperature, it is ensured that when the engine is cold, the storage tank (2) lies virtually outside the liquid circuit (fig. 1).
