PURPOSE:To reduce the cost and power consumption of a double-faced display device by providing a pressure head which applies pressure to an optional part of each sheet and brings translucent ceramic and the sheets into contact between the sheets. CONSTITUTION:Two pairs of plate type translucent ceramic 1 which has a polarizing plate on the surface and voltage-controlled Kerr effect and a sheet 2 having plural beltlike electrodes 3 arranged without contacting the ceramic are stacked so that the sheets are held at a constant interval; and the pressure head 6 which brings the translucent ceramic 1 and sheets 2 into contact are provided between the sheets 2. Consequently, information is recorded, displayed, held, and rewritten directly and all of those functions requires almost no electric power.
