[Also in Division E2] In a musical drum, the skin 3 is tensioned by the rim 2 releasably secured via a plurality of apertures 2a by toggle clamps 4 to brackets 5 on the shell 1. Brackets 5 have nail-heads 6 received in recesses 12 of yokes 10 of clamps 4. Yokes 10 are hinged at 11 to operating levers 7 hinged at 9 to elements 8a having threaded bores receiving bolts 8b passing through apertures 2a so that the tension in skin 3 may be adjusted. Six or eight apertures 2a may be provided. In further embodiments (Figs. 6-11, not shown), the lower ends of yokes 10 may be hook-shaped (Figs. 6, 7) and are received in vertical slots between brackets 5 and shell 1. Yokes (10<SP>1</SP>) (Figs. 8, 9) may be bolted on shell 1, and the brackets are dispensed with. Apertures 2a open into the outer edge of rim 2 so that bolts 8b may be slid out. Brackets (5<SP>1</SP>) (Figs. 10, 11) may be hook-shaped to receive the inner ends of levers 7, and the yokes are dispensed with. |
